Here is my blog about our chicken adventures. We started to look into getting chickens about 2-3 yrs ago, but never really sat down and planned things out. There was always something else that needed to be done.
This year we set aside a budget for the coop and found some plans online and got to work!
This will also be an "Urban" coop since we are in the heart of the city.

The chicks are now in their chicken run even though we haven't quite finished the house part.  We have one more wall to add now.
The back window took a little bit of patience but we got it done.  When it's closed, you won't be able to see it.  We then painted the inside boards white (3 coats) so that it'll be easier to clean later.
There is nothing in the run just yet (other than dirt) but we plan to add sand.

Here you can see we are adding the removable floor boards and inside walls.
We will later caulk the outside siding.  You can also add sheets of insulation between the boards if you like.

Here are the girls.....all hiding from me since they think I'm picking them up.

Silly Phyllis....

We are hoping to finish the coop for the coop tour on Sunday!!!!

HERE...CHICK, CHICK, CHICK - 18 DAYS OLD!!

These little chickens are growin' like mad!  They are still in their tub, but have outgrown it and now I am rigging up a wire dog kennel this weekend.  I plan to separate the big ones from the Bantams....just for a bit longer.  Soon they will be in their coop anyway.  We plan to leave them in the coop, locked in w/ a light.

Today was their first day out in the coop run, since we got all the hardware on.  They had a blast!!  It was so fun watching them all flutter around.  I'm sure they'd much rather be outside.

FOUND A WINDOW...

Our friends had this great transom window in their wood shop, salvaged from a past construction job.  We took it home to see if it would work out, and wow....perfect fit!  It's like it was made for our coop. :)
This window will be mounted near the top of this wall above our egg box.

Check out the cool hinges.....

Here's a cute chick photo as well.....they are getting their wing feathers and tail feathers now.....sooo cute!!!  This is Charlotte and she's checkin' out her future home.

The Roof is up!

Here is a photo of the roof up.....we went with a polycarbonate roof that is a smoke grey.  This is supposed to block out 70% of the sun's rays.

We have walls....

Well, my hubby took off work this entire week to get the coop finished before our girls get too big.  Today he somehow got the walls up all by himself!  It looks so awesome and now I can hardly wait to decorate it. :)

OUR CHICKENS HAVE ARRIVED!!!

We got the call today that our chickens have arrived in the mail!  We ordered our chicks together with a few other people to help with the shipping costs so there were 35 in the box.  We got them from
MY PET CHICKEN

They are 1-2 day old chicks and all were alive when our friend Elena opened the box...whew!
After work, my daughter Chloe' and I went to pick them up.  They were all in the brooder waiting.  We got 1st pick so it was a little tough to decide since they are all soooooo adorable!

We got our little chicks all loaded up in the car and headed home.  At home we set up our own brooder for them.  Right now they will be in a plastic tub on paper towels until they are bigger.
